Picture of the month - August 2013

Basset

Flag English Basset

Action photography is not everybody's darling. Animal photography in many cases is action photography at it's best. Not when it comes to our friend here in the Scottish Highlands.

He behaved as anticipated for an aristocratic dog of best reputation - never walk too hectic, calmly observe the environment and convey a sense of dignity. And if life weighs heavily on your back, find a rest for your head.

Almost at any time we passed his estate, the Basset radiated a pleasant tranquility - a desirable peace in today's world - and perfect for the less calm photographer: I had all the time of the world to select exposure, detail and still getting a direct eye contact. If I had used a tripod, even long-term exposures at midnight without moon- or street-light would have resulted in a absolutely unblurred image.
