The Crete Senesi is the most renowned landscape area in the region of Tuscany in Italy. It's softly rolling hills cover many of Tuscany's travel guides and postcards.

Crete Senesi is literally meaning "Senesi clays". The grayish clay called "mattaione" is related to the sediments of a sea vanished over 2.5 million years ago and represents the area.

While vastly covered in summertime, the soil is getting more and more visible again at the end of summer, when the harvesting period is over and large fields are cleared.

The broadly forested or viticultural area Tuscany is also known for here give way to a dry erosion landscape with a few trees, cypresses and scattered habitations.

Just wonderful !
